21 July 2018 Karim Ojjeh soars to fastest lap in Spa qualifying, Klaus Dieter Frers continues his Iron Cup pole streak

Qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps saw Karim Ojjeh (#2 Boutsen Ginion BMW M6 GT3) fly to pole position, with his 2:21.520 putting him over two seconds clear of Mario Cordoni (#70 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3). In the Iron Cup, Klaus Dieter Frers (#3 Artega Rennsport Ferrari 488 GT3) recorded his sixth consecutive class pole position.

Despite the added pressure of the delayed and shortened qualifying run, Karim Ojjeh made it three sessions so far at the top in Belgium, with the chasing pack fighting for best of the rest behind.

Mario Cordoni emerged in second place after improving late on, with Patrick Van Glabeke (#488 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3) ending the session just a tenth back and will start his home Qualifying Race from third on the grid.

Earlier on, Jürgen Häring (#66 Herberth Motorsport Porsche 991 GT3 R) looked likely to snatch a front-row start, but was still able to achieve his best qualifying performance yet with fourth.

It’s an all-German third row, with Coach McKansy (#17 HP Racing International Lamborghini Huracan GT3) nipping ahead of Christian Hook’s (#33 Rinaldi Racing) Ferrari 488 GT3 in the final moments.

Angélique Detavernier (#55 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3) continued to improve, going seventh fastest and challenging the top-five for much of the 15-minute session. She will share the fourth row with Boutsen Ginion’s Claude-Yves Gosselin (#4 Lamborghini Gallardo Extenso R-EX).

In the Iron Cup, Stephen Earle (#111 Kessel Racing Ferrari 488 GT3) and Klaus Dieter Frers traded places throughout qualifying, with the German ultimately coming out on top. Louis-Philippe Soenen (#50 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3) was third in class, as he looks to get in amongst the front two at his home race.

Next up is the 25-minute Qualifying Race, which you can follow via the live timing on the Blancpain GT Sports Club website, with regular updates on Twitter and Facebook.
