28 July 2017 Iron Cup charger Perazzini fastest overall in truncated FP1 at Spa-Francorchamps

Iron Cup challenger Piergiuseppe Perazzini set the fastest time overall in a truncated opening Blancpain GT Sports Club free practice at Spa-Francorchamps, lapping around the iconic Belgian Grand Prix venue on a 2:21.735 with the #53 AF Corse-run Ferrari 488 GT3.

FP1 saw three red flag periods at the daunting 7.004km track. Making his return to the Blancpain GT Sports Club this weekend, Perazzini showed strong pace from the onset and kept improving his lap times in between the interruptions.

The Italian ace headed Autovitesse Garage R.Affolter’s Cédric Leimer in the #963 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 by over four seconds, with Overall points leader Anthony Pons third quickest in the #72 AKKA ASP-entered Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Boutsen Ginion’s Karim Ojjeh hoisted the #2 BMW M6 GT3 up to fourth place in the shortened session with AF Corse’s Christoph Ulrich wrapping up the top five in the #51 Ferrari 458 Italia GT3.

In the Iron Cup class, the category reserved for drivers aged 60 and over, class points leader Stephen Earle and main rival Klaus Dieter Frers resumed their thrilling mano a mano. The Artega Rennsport driver in the #3 Ferrari 488 GT3 ended up seventh fastest, three tenths ahead of his US challenger, who could manage only one clean lap in the #111 Kessel Racing Ferrari 458 Italia GT3.

Xtra Cup challenger Dilantha Malagamuwa from Sri Lanka secured P17 aboard the #24 GDL Racing-entered Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo.

The second 30-minute free practice session gets underway at 10:20, Spa-Francorchamps time. Make sure to follow our LIVE timing on the official Blancpain GT Sports Club website
